There is something entirely missing when one has mastered a game. For some joys remain particular to being not so great at a game, perhaps, victories being on rarified accounts add to the jubilation, surely, but there is something else, something more severe than our eventual expertise becoming a numbing agent, which is, a sort of innocence, a covert submissiveness to being less, losing. It may simply be called, helplessness, but I cannot help sympathizing with it.
